TE# 9 The Dirtbombs, Chelsea Wolfe & Suicide

Sort of our pick of the week. In no particular order.

1. The Dirtbombs – Shari Vari

The highlight of this intriguing covers package is not, as the press release suggests, their cover of ‘Good Life’ (no, that one sounds like a horrible mess) but the garage rock veterans’, admittedly pretty straight-down-the-line, treatment of A number of Names’s ‘Sharevari’. I think it’s probably the bass throb that does it. I used to play bass.

In related news Scion AV have commissioned a series of remixes of these same covers by Omar S, Kyle Hall and Ectomorph which can be found here. Neither Omar S nor Kyle MF Hall need any more attention which is why that links to Ectomorph’s remix of Jaguar. He’s got a nice octave bass thing going on which reminds me of what happens when most guitar bands make dance music.

2. Chelsea Wolfe – The Grime and the Glow

There’s a few hot jamz on this one.

3. Suicide – Diamonds, Fur Coat, Champagne

Despite being over 30 years old, this, the opening track on the second Suicide album, still provokes debate.

On the comments for the youtube ‘boogienights2’ says “this makes me want to get into a street fight” whereas ‘strangeparty’ disagrees. For those interested in his two cents, “It makes (him) want to take quaaludes, pour champagne all over (him)self and masturbate.”.
