TE#11 Burial/Four Tet/Thom Yorke, The Can, Keith Fullerton Whitman

Burial/Four Tet/Thom Yorke – Ego/Mirror

For sale: one unplayed vinyl 12inch of Burial/Four Tet & Thom Yorke – Ego/Mirror (TEXT010). Unfortunately I have fallen on hard times, my wife is having a baby and we need medicine to send my grandmother to college (in America) which is why I am selling this much cherished but completely unplayed record. Reserve is set at a million pounds. It is what they would have wanted.

The Can – Mary, Mary So Contrary

Tran Anh Hung’s Norwegian Wood is set in 1967. We know this because the screen text tells us. And yet, YET, the score for the film includes this psyched out anachronism from THE Can that didn’t come out until 196NINE, as any fule kno. That’s two whole years, not to mention a few more possible months of delay – I don’t know how efficient the German/Japanese channels of distribution were in the late 60s- that I personally could NEVER reconcile with the flimsiest suggestions of ellipsis made in the opening quarter of the film. Are we in 1967 or aren’t we? Why not just make Watanabe send Naoko a fucking email?*

Keith Fullerton Whitman – Lisbon

I thought youtube had a 10 minute limit for clips?

*Now I’ve calmed down I’d just like to note that by retaining the framing device from the original novel, and so the thematisation of nostalgia, the fallibility of memory and so on, the film might have justified such a massive important glaring anarchonism.
